Can ex- spouses get back together?

There are two types of divorce today, the uncontested divorce and the unilateral divorce. In there:

- Consent divorce: A divorce procedure in which both husband and wife have reached an agreement on the termination of the husband and wife relationship, gaining custody of children, division of marital property after the divorce ... ( Pursuant to Article 55 of the Law on Marriage and Family).

- Divorce at the request of one party (unilateral divorce): A procedure in which one of the spouses submits an application to the Court to request a divorce from the other. In this case, often the couples cannot agree on the termination of their marital relationship as well as other related issues: alimony, property division, etc. (Article 56 of the Law on Marriage and Family).

Illustration

After completing the divorce, the marriage relationship terminates since the date on which the divorce judgment or decision of the Court takes legal effect. In case after a divorce, the husband and wife want to get back together, the provisions of Clause 2, Article 9 of the Law on Marriage and Family shall apply:

2. If a divorced couple wants to re-establish their husband and wife relationship, they must register their marriage.

Thus, if after the divorce, it is completely possible to get back together. However, when they get back together, the two are required to register their marriage again in accordance with regulations.
