From 2022, a fine of up to 6 million VND for the act of covering car number plates

On December 28, 2021, the Government issued Decree 123/2021/ND-CP amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Decrees stipulating penalties for administrative violations in the field of maritime and road traffic, railway; common aviation.

Specifically, a fine ranging from VND 04 million to VND 06 million for acts of:

Operating a vehicle without number plates or improperly mounted number plates; mounting number plates with unknown letters and numbers; mounted, bent, covered or damaged number plates; paint, apply stickers to change the letters, numbers or change the color of letters, numbers, background (including trailers and semi-trailers).

Meanwhile, according to the previous Decree 100/2019, the sanction for this behavior is from 800,000 VND to 01 million VND. Thus, from January 1, 2022 - the official date of entry into force of the Decree, the sanction level for the above-mentioned behavior will increase 6 times compared to the previous one.

In addition, not wearing a helmet when participating in traffic will be fined from 400,000 to 600,000 VND, double the current amount.

Decree 123/2021/ND-CP takes effect from January 1, 2022.
