Tenants can register for permanent residence from July 1, 2021

The Residence Law 2020 officially takes effect from July 1 with the new provisions in the Law on Residence 2020 affecting a large number of tenants (tenants) staying in big cities. The Law prescribes new regulation on issuing temporary and permanent residence in the rented place.

The Residence Law 2020 also provides an opportunity for tenants to have HCM City residential books by registering for permanent residence in the rented house.

Currently, citizens are allowed to register their permanent residence in rented houses in centrally-run cities with the consent of the landlord in condition that they have temporarily resided continuously for 1 to 2 years or more; ensure the rented house area according to local regulations (Clause 1, Article 20 of the Law on Residence 2006, amended in 2013).

From July 1, citizens can register for permanent residence in rented houses with the consent of the landlord. Ensure the rental area according to local regulations but at least 8m2 of floor/person.

If the tenants in big cities want to register for permanent residence here, they need to pay attention to the new conditions mentioned above.

In addition, Clause 1, Article 27 of the Law on Residence 2020 requires citizens who come to live in a lawful place of residence outside the commune-level administrative unit where they have registered, usually for 30 days or more, to make temporary registration.
