4 cases have to go to compulsory detoxification from Jan 1st, 2022

On March 30, 2021, the Law on Drug Prevention and Control 2021 was passed by the XIV National Assembly at its 11th session.

Specifically, Article 32 of the Law on Drug Prevention and Control 2021, drug addicts aged full 18 years or older will be administratively handled and sent to compulsory detoxification establishments in accordance with the Law on Handling of Behavioral Violations main when in one of the following cases: 

- Failing to register, fail to perform or voluntarily terminate voluntary drug detoxification;

- During the period of voluntary drug detoxification, it is found that illegal drug use is detected;

- Persons addicted to opiate substances who do not register, do not perform or voluntarily terminate treatment for addiction to opiates with alternative drugs or have been terminated from treatment for addiction to opiates with substitute drugs due to violation of regulations on addiction treatment;

- During the management period after drug addiction relapse but relapse.

The Law on Drug Prevention and Control 2021  takes effect on January 1, 2022 and replaces the Law on Drug Prevention and Control 2000 and the revised Law on Drug Prevention and Control 2008.
